Gender-Swapped Star Trek

The original Star Trek series, forward-thinking in so many ways, was in large measure a product of its time when it came to gender roles. So how do the stories change — or do they — if Captain Kirk is a woman? Director Mindy Klenoff explores that question and guides Jane T. Kirk, Ms. Spock, Dr. McCoy, and the rest of the gender-swapped crew of the Enterprise on a journey to boldly go where no woman has gone before.

The Doomsday Machine

This coming Friday (8pm) and Saturday (2pm and 8pm) we're reprising our gender-swapped take on the classic Star Trek episode “The Doomsday Machine”, first performed in January at the 2024 Arisia science-fiction convention.

There will be a talkback with the director and cast after Friday’s performance.

While we will happily take donations, attendence is free, and no reservations are required; just show up at Guild Church!

Arisia ’24: The Doomsday Machine

At the 2024 Arisia science-fiction convention, the Post-Meridian Radio Players presented our gender-swapped look at the classic Star Trek episode “The Doomsday Machine”, directed and adapted by Liz Salazar from the original script by Norman Spinrad. (For information on Arisia, go to https://www.arisia.org/.)

Investigating a distress call from the USS Constellation, Captain Jane Kirk finds it dead in space with the commanding officer, Commodore Decker, alone on board with a harrowing tale of a giant planet-killing device. With Captain Kirk stranded on the broken-down starship and a distraught Decker bent on revenge, can the crew of the Enterprise survive their encounter with the planet killer and stop it from continuing its destruction?

Performances

There was one Arisia performance on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10 PM at The Westin Boston Seaport.

Reprisal performances will occur on June 7th and 8th, 2024.

Gender-Swapped Star Trek: City on the Edge of Forever and Spock's Brain

Will she make the difficult choice needed to preserve the past and save the future?

In “Spock’s Brain”, after an encounter with a mysterious, beautiful man from an advanced starship, Spock’s brain has gone missing! McCoy can keep her body alive for now, but time is running out — can Kirk and her landing party find the mysterious man and save Spock before it’s too late?

“Mirror Mirror” reprise

On PMRP's YouTube channel, we reprised the Gender-Swapped Star Trek: episode we performed at the Arisia science-fiction convention in January, “Mirror Mirror”, live on YouTube. In our adaptation of this Original Series episode, a transporter malfunction sends Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, and Uhura into a parallel universe in which the Federation is replaced by an evil empire, promotion occurs through assassination, and everything seems changed on the Enterprise...for the worse! How will our heroes get back to their own timeline?

You can find us via PMRP's YouTube channel or learn more about the performance on its event page here.

“By Any Other Name” Reprise

On November 14, the Post-Meridian Radio Players will reprise the Gender-Swapped Star Trek: episode we performed at the Arisia science-fiction convention in January, “By Any Other Name” over Zoom. In our adaptation of this Original Series episode invaders from the Andromeda Galaxy take over the Enterprise to make a centuries-long journey back to their own galaxy as part fof a plan of conquest. The crew of the Enterprise seems to have no chance against the incredibly advanced Andromedans, but half-Vulcan Ms. Spock’s telepathic powers and perspective at least help the humans understand what they’re up against, and Scotty may have a trick or two up her sleeve too!

We’ll be streaming this LIVE at 8pm on YouTube at https://youtu.be/aIxcnRy4F2Y (fixed URL). We hope you can join us!

Ms. Spock experiences pon farr, a potentially fatal condition in which female Vulcans lose the logic and self-control that normally guides them and become driven to find a mate. To save the life of her friend, Captain Jane Kirk takes the Enterprise to Vulcan so that Ms. Spock can marry her betrothed T’Pring, but the Captain may pay an unexpected price.

Performance Dates

Saturday, August 25, 2018 @ 2:00pm (matinée)

The Naked Time reprise

We reprise PMRP’s gender-swapped take on the classic Star Trek episode “The Naked Time”, featuring Capt. Jane Kirk, her half-Vulcan science officer Ms. Spock, and the crew of the starship Enterprise, originally performed at the 2017 Arisia science-fiction convention. While investigating a lost research team on a dying planet, Ms. Spock’s landing party discover that the crew of the previous expedition froze to death under bizarre, irrational circumstances. When they return to the Enterprise, they start to behave erratically, and even stoic Ms. Spock has trouble controlling her emotions. Has whatever madness befell the research expedition spread to the crew of the Enterprise?
