“The Arrest of Arsène Lupin” is a new radio adaptation from PMRP’s Michael Lin of the first-ever-published Maurice Leblanc short story featuring Arsène Lupin, gentleman-burglar. The French steamship La Provence has received a telegram reporting that the notorious Arsène Lupin is onboard! Each passenger is eyeing their neighbor, wondering if they might be Lupin in disguise. Of them all, perhaps only Miss Nelly Underdown, keen-minded heiress, has a chance of ferreting him out — but what will happen as the clash of wits escalates? Thievery, misdirection, and a hint of romance are all in the mix — come be a part of this follow-up to Spring 2015’s “The Mysterious Traveler”!

How to Audition

  1. Look over the “Character Descriptions” below and think a little bit about what you’re interested in.
  2. Then go to our audition documents folder on Google Drive. There you will find a paper audition form and rehearsal availability grid which you should print out, fill out, and bring with you to your audition. There you will find audition sides (definition) there, which you’ll probably want to look at ahead of time. (That’s also where we’ll post the paper audition forms and rehearsal calendar when they’re available.)
  3. Then, click here to sign up for an audition appointment, fill out the form, and submit it.
  4. If you have submitted the form correctly and one of the time slots you requested is still available, you will get email confirming your audition appointment. (This is sent by a human being who has a day job, so don't worry if it doesn't come right away. But if it doesn’t come within a day or so, contact us at auditions@pmrp.org. You can also use that address to contact us if you have trouble submitting the form.)
  5. Then check back here in a week or so to see whether we’ve posted additional information yet. We’ll be posting a paper form for you to fill out and bring with you to your audition, as well as an availability calendar. Close to auditions we’ll also be posting audition sides, which you’ll probably want to look over and/or rehearse before your audition.
  6. Then, show up for your audition at the scheduled time! Good luck and have fun!

Some Things to Know

  • The audition process involves one form that you fill out online (the appointment form) and two paper forms which you should print out, complete, and bring with you to the audition. They’re not interchangeable. (The paper forms are here.)
  • Audition sides are available in our Audition Documents folder on Google Drive, in both PDF and Word format. You’ll want to study those and perhaps practiece them to be ready for your audition. It will also be very helpful if you can print out a copy (or download them to your tablet) and bring them to your audition, although we’ll have a few copies available.
  • If you show up for an audition without the paper forms (or the sides), we’ll probably have a few extra copies printed out and you can fill out the forms there. However, it saves time and trouble and makes the process go more smoothly if you can bring completed forms with you. (It also helps demonstrate to the directors how responsible and resourceful you are!)
  • Walk-ins are welcome, but people with appointments will take priority. If there are no-shows during a given hour, we will fill those slots with walk-ins. Any remaining walk-ins will be auditioned at 10pm. It helps the directors tremendously if you sign up in advance, though.

Recording and release

“The Arrest of Arsène Lupin” will be recorded in the studio and released online and on CD in late 2016/early 2017.

Character Descriptions

(Please note the role of Bernard d’Andrézy/Arsène Lupin is pre-cast.)

  • Miss Nelly Underdown: Upper-class heiress of French and American parentage. Intelligent, down-to-earth, and observant, with a youthful adventurous streak.
  • Rozaine: Wealthy and well-traveled son of a French merchant. Cleverer than most, and charming enough to possibly be Lupin himself — but only just.
  • Lady Jerland: An older English gentlewoman. Her confident demeanor makes everything about her more dignified - even her vices.
  • Miss Lydia: Easygoing young woman and Nelly’s close friend, determined to have her idea of an enjoyable voyage.
  • Sir Alfred: English gentleman. “Posh” personified.
  • Major Tullius: British Army officer. Boisterous and stuffy.
  • Assorted Minor Roles: Ship’s captain, various crew members, and Inspector Ganimard (French police inspector)

A note on accents: We will likely not be using accents for this show, in keeping with the convention set by the previous Lupin radio play, “The Mysterious Traveler.” Actors are still encouraged to speak in a manner suited to the social class of the character they’re reading for. Whether that entails incorporating some minor pronunciation changes is left to the actor’s discretion, but it is by no means a requirement.
