She seeks out justice where others cannot go; she is the Silver Shade. The Post Meridian Radio Players presents an homage to the pulp adventure series of the golden age of radio. High school teacher Penelope Umberson has a super power she keeps hidden from the world, but when a student comes to her for help when a parent is framed for murder, she must learn to use her ability to set things right.

VOX POP presents The Cask of Amontillado

On Friday, August 23, 2019, PMRP reprised our original adaptation of “The Cask of Amontillado” at the Somerville Media Center’s pop-up performance space VOX POP at 431 Artisan Way in Assembly Square, Somerville. The performance was at 7:00pm and lasted about an hour (including a Q-and-A session following the performance). Their calendar of events had more details.

This performance was broacast and streamed live on Somerville Cable Access Television, and it’s now on YouTube here, or you can watch it below.

Naomi Ibasitas directed Mare Freed’s adaptation, which transplants Poe’s classic tale to the Roaring Twenties. Freed originally directed her own adaptation for PMRP as part of Tomes of Terror: Nevermore in 2014, and Ibasitas first directed it as part of Fort Point Theatre Channel’s Senses series on Halloween night in 2018.

Ring In the New Year
with a Little Chaos!

THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS have been invited to perform as part of Boston's expansive First Night festivities: a city-wide extravaganza celebrating the arts and featuring over 200 local groups performing in 40 venues. Come see radio drama performed the way it was back in the 1930's, 40's & 50's. Actors at microphones, live sound effects artists, and recorded audio effects will transport the audience from the cockpit of a heroic Do-Gooder's futuristic spaceship to the panic-stricken streets of a city doomed by science gone wrong!

Featuring

PRESHOW: Interactive Foley Demonstration — Starting at 6:45pm, members of PMRP's "Foley" (live sound effects) crew will lead a hands-ondemonstration in the Lobby, where you make the sounds for a comic retelling of The Three Little Pigs. For children ages 6 to 106.
ACT 1: Red Shift: Interplanetary Do-Gooder in “Countdown to Chaos!” — The PMRP bring to the stage their acclaimed original sci-fi comedy adventure program. This sendup of the pulp sci-fi serials of the 1930s and 40s features Red Shift, a licensed Do-Gooder for hire, and his faithful friend and mechanic Lumpy. In “Countdown to Chaos!”, the villainous Lord Draith forces the duo to crash-land on the forbidden planet of Earth. Their ship attracts the attention of the world-renowned scientist Dr. Alberts and snoopy Penny Parker, Girl Reporter, who find themselves trapped inside the rocket when calamity comes to call. Can Red and Lumpy escape from the primitive planet, or will human technology be their doom? Are Penny and Doc destined for a sudden trip into outer space, or will they get the chance to pack first? The amazing adventures begin here!
ACT 2: Arch Oboler's “Chicken Heart” — The infamous “lost” episode of the seminal horror series , originally broadcast in 1937, and immortalized decades later by Bill Cosby in one of his most famous routines. In the play, a research scientist and a science reporter for a big city newspaper are witness to inconceivable events when a laboratory accident causes a specially-treated chicken's heart to grow uncontrollably. While officials treat the scientist's demands for action with skepticism and delay, hapless citizens are consumed by the ever-expanding mass and the deadly heart continues to grow... and grow... and grow...
