At the 2017 Arisia science-fiction convention, the Post-Meridian Radio Players will present Gender-Swapped Star Trek: “The Naked Time”! While investigating a lost research team on a dying planet, Ms. Spock’s landing party discover that the crew of the previous expedition froze to death under bizarre, irrational circumstances. When they return to the Enterprise, they start to behave erratically, and even stoic Ms. Spock has trouble controlling her emotions. Has whatever madness befell the research expedition spread to the crew of the Enterprise?

At the 2016 Arisia science-fiction convention, the Post-Meridian Radio Players presented Gender-Swapped Star Trek: “Journey to Babel”! The Enterprise finds itself host to a number of bickering diplomats - including Spock's parents. When an alien dignitary is murdered, the prime suspect is Spock's mother! The crew must unravel the mystery as an unidentified vessel attacks.

Our performance was on Saturday, January 16, at 10pm at the Arisia science-fiction convention. (You must have an Arisia membership to attend — unless you’re part of the performance!) Day memberships are usually available (although they sometimes sell out).

(We will also be reprising the show in Davis Square, Somerville, on June 3 at 8pm and June 4 at 2pm and 8pm.)

Actress-turned-Director Mindy Klenoff (“The Do-Nothing Detective”) is again presenting a gender-swapped interpretation of a classic Star Trek episode. This time she’s showing us a new perspective on “Space Seed”, the episode that introduced the genetically engineered ~~superman~~ superwoman Khan.

THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS present two FUND-RAISING encore performances of their highly-successful Arisia ’11 staged radio play based on the long-running BBC sci-fi TV series!

About the Show

Suffering Shuggoths!
The Roaring Twenties have just begun! Flappers! Gin joints! Deep Ones? A newly-regenerated Doctor joins forces with a struggling, nightmare-plagued writer by the name of Lovecraft to investigate attacks in Boston by monstrous creatures. Who is this eccentric Professor Whiteman who appears to be behind it all? What is the secret of the Professor's amazing chair that can seemingly cure the insane? What truly goes on inside the Miskatonic Gentlemen's Club? What will happen to the world, and every living being on it, when C'thulhu rises?

PMRP tries its hand at something completely different. For years, Doctor Who fans have been making their own adventures in the form of audio dramas. Until recently, it's been a phenomenon almost unique to the series. In fact, when PMRP was first being formulated, its primary focus was going to be the production of a series of Doctor Who audios. In honor of that original intent, we are proud to present our very first (but hopefully not the last!) Doctor Who episode. But it's not just any old Doctor Who story...

Legacy of the Time War: We all know that the new series of Doctor Who adventures which came to our screens in 2005 picked up shortly after the Eighth Doctor's regeneration into the Ninth. Throughout the new series we've learned that the Eighth Doctor made some difficult choices in order to end the long and bloody Time War between his own people, the Time Lords, and the ruthless hordes of the Daleks. In the end, his choices resulted in peace, but it was achieved only with the destruction of both races.

However...

What if something had gone wrong? What if something different had happened? What if someone had interfered with Time and triggered the Doctor's regeneration earlier than it was meant to be?

Sometimes the most amazing stories begin with “What if...?”

“Starship of Madness” is the beginning of just such a story...

Ring In the New Year
with a Little Chaos!

THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS have been invited to perform as part of Boston's expansive First Night festivities: a city-wide extravaganza celebrating the arts and featuring over 200 local groups performing in 40 venues. Come see radio drama performed the way it was back in the 1930's, 40's & 50's. Actors at microphones, live sound effects artists, and recorded audio effects will transport the audience from the cockpit of a heroic Do-Gooder's futuristic spaceship to the panic-stricken streets of a city doomed by science gone wrong!

PRESHOW: Interactive Foley Demonstration — Starting at 6:45pm, members of PMRP's "Foley" (live sound effects) crew will lead a hands-ondemonstration in the Lobby, where you make the sounds for a comic retelling of The Three Little Pigs. For children ages 6 to 106.
ACT 1: Red Shift: Interplanetary Do-Gooder in “Countdown to Chaos!” — The PMRP bring to the stage their acclaimed original sci-fi comedy adventure program. This sendup of the pulp sci-fi serials of the 1930s and 40s features Red Shift, a licensed Do-Gooder for hire, and his faithful friend and mechanic Lumpy. In “Countdown to Chaos!”, the villainous Lord Draith forces the duo to crash-land on the forbidden planet of Earth. Their ship attracts the attention of the world-renowned scientist Dr. Alberts and snoopy Penny Parker, Girl Reporter, who find themselves trapped inside the rocket when calamity comes to call. Can Red and Lumpy escape from the primitive planet, or will human technology be their doom? Are Penny and Doc destined for a sudden trip into outer space, or will they get the chance to pack first? The amazing adventures begin here!
ACT 2: Arch Oboler's “Chicken Heart” — The infamous “lost” episode of the seminal horror series , originally broadcast in 1937, and immortalized decades later by Bill Cosby in one of his most famous routines. In the play, a research scientist and a science reporter for a big city newspaper are witness to inconceivable events when a laboratory accident causes a specially-treated chicken's heart to grow uncontrollably. While officials treat the scientist's demands for action with skepticism and delay, hapless citizens are consumed by the ever-expanding mass and the deadly heart continues to grow... and grow... and grow...

Arisia ’06: “Chicken Heart”

In January of 2006, the Post Meridian Radio Players recreated the classic Lights Out radio drama “Chicken Heart” live at the 2006 Arisia science-fiction convention in downtown Boston, performed live with gooey and squishy sound effects. The performance was followed by a “making-of” presentation.

THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS return to Boston's largest sci-fi convention with another live episode of their original sci-fi comedy, which pays homage to the pulp sci-fi serials of the 1930s and 40s. Join our heroes—Red, Lumpy, Doc Alberts and Penny Parker, Girl Reporter—as they encounter double the trouble while in pursuit of a team of would-be Do-Gooders, only to encounter Red's arch-nemesis, Violet Spektra!
